Happy New Moon in Virgo 2020

Happy New Moon in Virgo 2020

The Virgo New Moon begins at 7:00 am EDT on September 17, 2020 in the mutable earth sign of Virgo.

Virgo, the sign of the Virgin, is ruled by Mercury (the Magician card). Mercury is currently in the justice-focused air sign of Libra (the Justice card).

This moon may be showing us a preview of what we’ll be focused on over the next season which begins when the sun enters Libra on September 22, 2020.

Here are the major aspects for the New Moon in Virgo Chart

  1. New Moon in Virgo trine Saturn and Pluto Retrograde (Rx), and Jupiter in Capricorn
  2. New Moon in Virgo opposite Neptune Rx in Pisces (wide orb)
  3. Saturn and Pluto Rx, and Jupiter in Capricorn square Mars Rx, Black Moon Lilith, and Eris in Aries
  4. Venus and Vesta in Leo square Uranus in Taurus
  5. New Moon in Virgo square the Nodes – NN in Gemini and SN in Sagittarius
  6. Juno in Libra opposite Mars Rx, Black Moon Lilith, and Eris in Aries

When trying to make sense of what this means, I break each piece into the meanings associated with it.

For example, here’s the first major aspect:

  1. New Moon in Virgo trine Saturn and Pluto Retrograde (Rx), and Jupiter in Capricorn

Virgo – progress (not perfection), health conscious, virgin (independent), food – diet, spirit – meditation (Virgo rules the digestive and nervous systems) (The Hermit card).

Sun – vitality (the Sun card)

Moon – self-care and nurturing (the High Priestess card)

Capricorn – work, work, work, Seagoat, contains, provides structure, supports, (the Devil card).

Saturn – the wise one (the World card); restriction, boundaries, fear, vocation/work

Pluto – Power and transformation (the Judgement card)

Jupiter – luck, optimism, faith, spirituality, (the Wheel of Fortune card)

The devil is in the details. Work – and lots of it. If you’re operating under the 10,000 hour rule to expertise, however, you may just be doing a ton of work without actually getting to mastery. According to Business Insider, “…mastery is more than a matter of practice.” Remember the old song from Hee Haw? Gloom, Despair, Agony on Me?  While you will have luck in the mix, nothing guarantees that what you’re working toward will bring you good luck. So, slow down and discern what is absolutely necessary and work smarter. Then, take good care of yourself along the way – eat right, move your body, and rest.

What else can I share about the New Moon in Virgo?

  1. New Moon in Virgo opposite Neptune Rx in Pisces (wide orb)

Virgo – progress (not perfection), health conscious, virgin (independent), food – diet, spirit – meditation (Virgo rules the digestive and nervous systems) (The Hermit card).

Sun – vitality (the Sun card)

Moon – self-care and nurturing (the High Priestess card)

Pisces – dreamy, vast, alone. (the Moon card).

Neptune – where we escape. Where we dream. (the Hanged Man card).

Embodied/not embodied. Am I dreaming a good dream? Or is this a nightmare I want to escape? Get your rest. Make sleep a priority and your bedroom a sleep sanctuary. Meditate. Maybe try a little yoga or Qigong this moon cycle.

  1. Saturn and Pluto Rx, and Jupiter in Capricorn square Mars Rx, Black Moon Lilith, and Eris in Aries

Capricorn – work, work, work, Seagoat, contains, provides structure, supports, (the Devil card).

Saturn – the wise one (the World card) restriction, boundaries, fear, vocation/work

Pluto – Power and transformation (the Judgement card)

Jupiter – luck, optimism, faith, spirituality, (the Wheel of Fortune card)

Aries – Inspired leadership or passionate warrior. (the Emperor card)

Mars – Our drive, will, power to act on our own behalf or the behalf of others. (the Tower card)

Black Moon Lilith – Dark Feminine who doesn’t need someone else to tell her she deserves equality — she insists on it. Doesn’t accept subjugation

Eris – Discordia. Discord. Disagreement. Lack of harmony. Second ruler of Aries?

Will you align with the old guard of “this is the way it’s always been” or a new movement of social justice warriors working for full equality for all of us? Stand for something or fall for anything? Reminds me of the Florence Reece song “Which Side Are You On?” written during the bloody days of union organizing in Harlan County, Kentucky less than 100 years ago. Manage your energy and let go of arguments that aren’t supporting your cause. To be a good warrior, your energy must be focused. Don’t get distracted by bright shiny objects meant to take you off course.

  1. Venus and Vesta in Leo square Uranus in Taurus

Taurus (ruled by Venus). Earthiest of Earth The Bull. Grounded. Sensual. Stubborn. (the Hierophant card). Hierophant: the priest who interprets sacred mysteries – the masculine counterpart to the High Priestess.

Uranus – the Fool, Freedom, electric, exploration

Leo (ruled by the Sun) the Lion, creative, shiny, performative. (the Strength card) The sun and wind fable: The wind and the sun compete to make the person remove their overcoat. The wind blows and blows and the person wraps the coat tighter around themself. The sun shines brighter and brighter and the person begins to heat up and removes their coat. Effortless strength.

Venus – the goddess of beauty, our values, what and how we love. (the Empress card).

Vesta – keeper of the flame. Home fires burning. Secondary ruler of Virgo? Vestal Virgins.

Divine permission to live, love, and pursue our passions in whatever way we want. Sacred sex? Permission granted. Witchy work? Permission granted. My desires first? Yes, child, permission granted. All the gods and goddesses are supporting your wilding for their divine purposes. Embrace the grace.

  1. New Moon in Virgo square the Nodes – NN in Gemini and SN in Sagittarius

Virgo – progress (not perfection), health conscious, virgin (independent), food – diet, spirit – meditation (Virgo rules the digestive and nervous systems) (The Hermit card).

Sun – vitality (the Sun card)

Moon – self-care and nurturing (the High Priestess card)

Nodes – North node (NN) – head of the dragon (thinking and planning self which envisions the future); South node (SN) – tail of the dragon (the embodied, instinctual self that reacts from a place of past conditioning) – when the nodes are aligned with the sun, moon, and earth, we have an eclipse.

Gemini (ruled by Mercury) the Twins. Many ideas. Dissemination of ideas. (the Lovers card)

Sagittarius (ruled by Jupiter) the Archer. Optimistic and faithful. Dogmatic if in shadow. (the Temperance card). Temperance is to temper – as in the alchemical process of putting two things together to transmute into a third wholly different thing.

The squares signify being between eclipses (thanks, CV!). Like being in the fullness of the transition.

Keep doing what you’ve always done and you’ll keep getting what you always got. Or, embrace alchemy and transmute that shit. If you want to learn how to do that, I highly recommend Carolyn Elliott’s Existential Kink.

  1. Juno in Libra opposite Mars Rx, Black Moon Lilith, and Eris in Aries

Libra –  The scales of justice, equanimity, the goddess Ma’at who makes the afterlife judgement by comparing the weight of a feather to the weight of the heart of the soul. (the Justice card).

Juno (Hera) – the marriage partner, married to Jupiter (Zeus), daughter of Saturn, mother of Mars, and protector of women. Secondary ruler of Cancer?

Aries – Inspired leadership or passionate warrior. (the Emperor card)

Mars – Our drive, will, power to act on our own behalf or the behalf of others. (the Tower card)

Black Moon Lilith – Dark Feminine who doesn’t need someone else to tell her she deserves equality — she insists on it. Cannot accept subjugation

Eris – Discordia. Discord. Disagreement. Lack of harmony. Secondary ruler of Aries?

Either cold justice or hot destruction – but all in the name of wholeness and full equality. Make love, Not War.

Then, I distill all of this down into something digestible:

Virgo New Moon, September 17, 2020

Define your dream. Allow the discriminating energy of Virgo support you in mindfully describing your truest intentions. Let all that you do be done in service to your deepest desires. Understand that aligning your will to the dream is necessary to stand in true integrity with your soul. Transmute your fears and revel in embodiment. If it doesn’t feel good and right – body, mind, and soul – then, by all that is holy, don’t do it. Rely on the gifts that abound in the collective for support and accountability. Clearly map the journey and the destination so you can both end up where you want and enjoy the ride along the way. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Goal Setting with the Elements

Goal Setting with the Elements

Over on IG this week, I introduced the 4 elements which serve as a foundational understanding of both astrology and tarot.

ICYMI, the 4 elements are water, earth, air, and fire.

The 4 elements aren’t just the foundational in astrology and tarot. They also work as the underpinning of other concepts – like archetypal psychology, for example.

Imagine a life built with the 4 elements as the foundation. What might this look like? Feel like?

Many of us have learned to set intentions with the new moon and to build check-ins during the moon cycle which correspond to the phases.

Some of us go farther by setting seasonal goals or intentions based on the time of the year and coinciding with equinoxes and solstices.

I’m suggesting adding the elements as another building block for your intention/goal-setting process. I find this paying attention to and flowing with the energies of the natural world supportive of the life I prefer to live.

I begin by looking at each piece and then asking, “What do I want?” in respect to the pieces.

Here’s what that looks like:

Water – Emotions. Relationships.

What emotional support do I need or want to have in my life? What goals do I have around my emotions? (For example, my intention might be: “I’d really love to be less reactive when I’m interacting with my family of origin”)

Which relationships do I want to nurture? Are there relationships that need pruning? (For example, “I want to connect with my dad more often.” Or “I need to set a boundary with the neighbor who gossips about others to me.”)

Earth – Physical body. Structures.

What does my body need right now? (For example, “I could use more sleep.”)

What do the other structures that support me need right now? (For example, “I need to create a monthly budget.”)

Air – Intellect. Communication.

Is there something I want to learn right now? (For example, “I want to learn how to grow culinary herbs.”)

How would I like to communicate with others? (For example, “My intention is to listen before I speak.”)

Fire – Passion. Spirituality. Creativity.

How do I want to express my creativity right now? (For example, “I want to write a story/paint a picture/sew a quilt/arrange flowers/make funny videos.”

How do I want to connect with my inner wise self? How do I want to connect with divinity? (For example, “I want to sit by the water in silence more often.”

Once you have an elemental intention, determining the action steps to make those intentions real becomes clearer.

Finally, doing regular check-ins and reassessing if the intention or goal still fits is helpful in correcting course when something no longer needs your attention. For example, you stop gossip before it begins or you have a regular sleep routine and are ready for different goals.

If you would like support around identifying your intentions and coming up with a plan for making them a regular part of your life, I hope you’ll schedule an introductory coach session with me today. The only thing it costs is your time.

Mercury in Leo, Venus in Cancer 2020

Mercury in Leo, Venus in Cancer 2020

That which is below corresponds to that which is above

and that which is above corresponds to that which is below

to accomplish the miracle of the One thing

Hermes Trismegistus

I want to share a little formula I use to make meaning out of what is happening in the sky. It goes like this: The planet is the “what”. The house is the “where”. The sign is the “how”. To demonstrate, this post will focus on the Mercury ingress to Leo and the Venus ingress to Cancer.

Mercury entered the sign of Leo at 11:31 pm EDT on August 4, 2020. Later this week, Venus will enter Cancer at 11:21 am on August 7, 2020.

Mercury just did a retrograde through the sign of Cancer. It had been in Cancer since May 29, 2020.

Mercury is the planet of logic and communication. It rules transactions and trade. Mercury words include thinking, learning, communicating, teaching, translate, record, negotiate, exchange, adapt, analyze, and, of course, we can never forget that Mercury is the trickster.

Venus had been in Gemini since April 4, 2020. This is also much longer than usual because Venus retrograded here.

Venus is the planet of harmonizing and pleasure. Venus words include relating, reconciling, attraction, love, socializing, purchases, pleasing, entertaining, indulging, and Venus can be associated with what we value.

Now that these planets are direct, they begin to pick up speed. For example, Mercury will shift signs again when it moves into Virgo on August 19, 2020 at 9:29 pm EDT.

The sign of Leo (ruled by the Sun) is confident, it’s associated with the heart. Some of the phrases associated with Leo, are: to idolize heroes, to integrate one’s talents, or to shine as an individual.

The sign of Cancer is ruled by the Moon. Cancer keywords include: emotional, considerate, supportive, patriotic, protective, loyal, and trusting. Phrases relating to cancer include: to promote belonging and family ties, to create safe space and protective boundaries, and creating a mutually supportive collective.

Now, the final piece is where this is happening. Here’s a description of each of the 12 houses according to traditional astrology. There’s also an inquiry or two to consider for each house based on the associations of the house.

1st house: the house of you. This is the house of your personality, your appearance, the way you appear to others. (Mercury’s Joy)

Q: How do I appear to others? How do I feel “seen”?

2nd house: this is the house of your possessions. It’s your money and moveable assets.

Q: What resources do I have? How do I make money?

3rd house: the house of communication, siblings, operations of the mind, local travel, neighbors and close relatives (not parents).

Q: How do I communicate with others? What are my routine movements?

4th house: your home and ancestors, your father, land, relationship to tradition.

Q: How do I connect to my roots? Who are my ancestors (and how do I relate to them)?

5th house: children, sex, love affairs, play, self-expression, gambling and investments in the stock market. (Venus’s Joy)

Q: What brings me pleasure? How do I creatively express myself?

6th house: service, servitude, employees, responsibilities, small animals, hygiene, nutrition, work without glamour.

Q: How am I of service? What am I responsible for?

7th house: marriage partner (spouse or partner), open enemies, opponents, lawsuits, counseling relationships

Q: Who is/are my ideal partner(s)?

8th house: death, handling other people’s money, partner’s assets, fear, phobias, anxiety

Q: How much do I depend on other people’s money? How do I work with fear and anxiety?

9th house: higher mind, philosophy, religion, astrology, long-distance travel, law, teaching,

Q: How do I relate to unfamiliar ideals, places, and cultures?

10th house: your career, your reputation, your boss, your mother, people in power over you, i.e. authority figures

Q: How do I relate to authority? How do I want others to regard me?

11th house: friends, social circles, clubs, hopes, wishes, ambitions

Q: What are my goals? Who do I socialize with?

12th house: self-undoing, karma, sacrifice, isolation, confinement, withdrawal, hidden enemies, self-denying, lack of activity, large animals

Q: How do I retreat? Where do I self-sabotage?

You can find specifically where this is happening for you by using the chart below:

Let’s put it all together now. If you are a Pisces rising, you might interpret Venus in Cancer in the 4th house as an opportunity to examine how you take pleasure in expressing yourself particularly as your focus in this area tends to be more concerned with collective efforts.

Remember, the planet is the “what”. The house is the “where”. The sign is the “how”.

Now it’s your turn. I’d love to know how this is showing up for you.

Mercury Day Magic

Mercury Day Magic

Wednesday was a mix of divining and mundane in equal measure. I began the day as I always do – pulling a card, making note of my dreams, noticing the placement of the sun and the moon and any astrological aspects, and making my to do list.

As I made breakfast for myself and my DH, I called my Daddy to tell him I’d heard one of my cousins had a stroke back in February. None of us knew about it. We’ve lost touch with that part of the family.

Daddy and I don’t talk often but he loves me and I love him.

Daddy and Me

This morning, however, Daddy was in a mood to talk about past things.

I’ve learned how to extract stories from my older family members. When you’re raised in the mountains by conservative and stoic people, you learn early that people would rather cut out their tongue than talk about anything that feels like blaming, complaining, or inadequacy. It’s a useful skill, then, to be able to ask open-ended questions and then just listen. But, it takes a while 🙂

This morning, I learned that my Granddaddy’s mother, Rosa, was a hoodoo practitioner. She was an herbalist who made her own medicine. She never drank but she kept alcohol (she probably made herself) for tinctures. She never went to school but she taught herself to read the Bible. I have one of her Bibles that she made notes in with her childlike handwriting. Daddy said he wore an asfidity bag until he was a year old that his Mamaw made him and that she probably midwifed him into this life.

I remember Rosa though I don’t know how. I was barely two years old when she died.

It’s such a beautiful experience to learn something new about who your ancestors were. I know I know things. I believe it’s in my DNA. Hearing the confirmation – this Hoodoo practicing grandmother, another grandmother who had prophetic dreams, my Granny who’s prognostications were eerily accurate but outsiders dubbed a “nervous condition” – it leaves me feeling much more settled in myself.

And…even if I were disconnected from this confirmation, I know I know things

If you are feeling like you have to have your knowings confirmed, I would ask you to settle into yourself. Find a quiet space and close your eyes. Take a breath. Now, take another. Settle your mind. Notice your breath moving in and out of your nose. Let your breath loosen your tension. Breathe into your tight places and exhale. Let it take as long as it takes. Relax your scalp and jaw.

Then, drift.

As you drift, ask your guides – the Universe, God/Goddess, whatever your vision of divine is – ask, what do I know and how do I know it?

Then listen with all of who you are.

Listen with your body. Listen with your mind. Listen with your heart.

Once you have your answer, bring yourself back to the present and pick up your journal. Write consciousness-streaming style. When you are done, put it all away. Take a cleansing breath. Slowly make your way back to the mundane but be kind and gentle with yourself. Drink lots of water. Later, when you’re fully back to the mundane, read what you wrote.

Now.

Now, you have all the confirmation you need about what you know and how you know it.

Money alter with gifts & flowers from my garden

Mid-day, I did a ritual to Money. I gave her gifts and delighted in the feeling of having a space specifically dedicated to bringing more money into my life.

I went on to have lunch and a call with one of my coaches. Then, I finished out my day with a little gardening, pickle-making, prepping for some time with friends tomorrow, and a Hermes magic spell (Wednesday is his day, after all).

Hermes offering

I so often spend my days with no one other than my DH and the fur kids. Yet, only in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would be living the kind of life where I could do the things I do on an everyday basis. It’s a wild mix of the magical and the mundane. As I wrap up this rich and beautiful  day, I realize I want to share it with you.

xoxo,

K.C.
